United States Consumer Product Safety CommissionSome Marvel-themed popcorn buckets have been recalled due to concerns about the risk of death or injury to kids.
Golden Link is a cinema concessions company responsible for the novelty popcorn buckets that are often sold by theatre chains during the marketing process of a movie rollout.
Two of the company’s Marvel-themed releases, namely the Captain America: Brave New World and Fantastic Four: First Steps popcorn buckets, were recalled by the company this week.
More than 55,000 of these items were sold
In a notice posted by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, the safety regulators warned that the Captain America helmet-shaped buckets contain button cell batteries that are easily accessible by children.
The batteries, which are just as accessible in the Human Torch and Invisible Woman Fantastic Four cups, can result in serious injuries such as internal chemical burns or even death, if swallowed by children.
United States Consumer Product Safety CommissionOver 55,000 of the Captain America and Fantastic Four buckets and cups were sold at AMC Theatres, Harkins Theatres, GQT Movies, and more.
As of yet, there have been no reports of injuries linked to the recall, but parents have been advised to dispose of the souvenirs and contact Golden Link for a refund.
A Spider-Man popcorn bucket is being sold as part of the promotion for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and has also faced backlash due to its reportedly “NSFW” design.
